This packaging design project was created for a range of organic, eco‑friendly toddler toys inspired by the traditional Channapatna craft of Karnataka. Designed for stacking and push‑and‑pull play, the toys include multiple loose, removable pieces, requiring a packaging system that could secure them safely while protecting their delicate lacquer finish.
The result is a fully recyclable, tactile packaging system that balances sustainability, functionality, and the sensory appeal of Channapatna toys, presenting them in a way that feels honest, safe, and aligned with the values of an eco‑conscious global market.
THE CRAB PULL TOY : PROTOTYPE
Zero plastic + use of recyclable materials:
Folded corrugated board and recycled paper with screen printing
To meet these needs, the packaging was developed using folded structural forms made from corrugated board. These forms cradle each component with minimal points of contact, preventing friction that could dull or melt the lacquer surface, while still holding every piece firmly in place during transport and display. The approach also supports a plastic‑free design, allowing the toys to remain partially open and visible so customers can appreciate their vibrant colours and natural craftsmanship through touch and sight.
The use of brown corrugated board for packaging helped in enhancing the colours of the products along with giving a sturdy and cost effective structure. The product can be pulled out of its sleeve and displayed on its own at exhibitions and fairs.
